City Acre Harvey Party

Hey all, did you miss us? We've been offline for a while now, life has thrown us new challenges to take on and we've been busier than usual, but as we all know when you excel at one thing in your life, you unintentionally start to slack in another. We're sorry we've kept you all waiting, but we're back, so let's dive right back into it shall we?

If you're a native Houstonian, or even if you're not, you remember very well that a year ago Hurricane Harvey slammed into Houston and left devastation and destruction in it's wake. Like many people Houston, City Acre was struck, took on quite a bit of damage, and suffered a set back because of it, but instead of simply putting their past behind them a year later they decided to celebrate it. They SURVIVED, they coped with the difficulties and since then have come back even stronger than ever, that is the literal definition of survival, and that our friends calls for some goddamn celebration!

If you've not have the pleasure of visiting City Acre quite yet, we truly can not recommend it enough! This post has been a long time coming for the To Have and To Note team, it is our go to spot, it is a part of the community we were raised in, and it's where we've chosen to celebrate birthdays, new jobs, and just plain old had a beer after a long day at work. Are we a little biased? No, we're totally biased! It's charming, laid back nature will completely draw you in. From the time you start walking up, you can see their gardens which they proudly utilize throughout their menu and their beers. The array of beers, some year round favorites that are always sure to please, like TXPA, along with their seasonals which are constantly being changed. Chef Rick's delicious kitchen creations are one of the many things that just keep calling us back, he is the genius who put us on to our obsession, that make our mouths instantly water when we think of them, Dragon Frites. Perfectly crisp Belgian style fries, topped with the garlic, vinegar based sauce of our dreams. (Are you drooling yet?) These fries are pure, simple, magic, from the moment those babies meet my lips, they have the power to completely rid me of my cares and worries, not to be dramatic, but they make me believe in things again, is that what love is? Speaking of, to kick off the festivities they asked their long time regulars, who came to support, to write/doodle on the last remaining wall that needs to be painted over. In turn, we will forever be a part of the establishment, a small ode of love that will only be between each of us and the brewery! Obviously, there was wonderful beer and food specials, one of which was my personal favorite of the night, HTXPA (TXPA with a hint of lemongrass) along with that there was also incentive to have one more, and there was no harm in it because every dollar that they earned from beer sales went to Habitat for Humanity to help families who are still displaced and needing assistance from Harvey. It was a wonderful, hot, Texas night done right, celebrating while also simultaneously helping our community. That's the beauty of City Acre there's no glitz, no bullshit, they're unabashedly themselves, wonderful people that want to provide great products. They exude happiness, because they are, they truly love what they are doing, you can see it in their faces, and you can see it when you sit down and have a talk with them. That, at least to us, will never not be cool! Thank you, City Acre and all of your staff for being you, true gems.

Talk soon,

Mel & Bree
